On January 21, 2013, fifty PBS graduates reported for work at one of the most exclusive events in American politics: President Obama's second inauguration. They arrived at 10 AM, cleared two hours of security screening, and then spent the day bartending at the Washington Convention Center for an inaugural ball with tens of thousands of attendees. The following day, a smaller group worked a President's Ball with 8,000 to 9,000 guests.
The scale was staggering. Multiple bars running simultaneously, thousands of guests, and the kind of security protocols you do not encounter at a typical Friday night shift. Our graduates handled it with professionalism, serving efficiently under pressure while soaking in an experience most people only see on television.
Several graduates later described it as the experience of a lifetime. Beyond the prestige, there were memorable behind-the-scenes moments - including exclusive access to watch performers rehearse before the evening's entertainment. For a bartender, there is no better proof that this job can take you to extraordinary places.
